Block Talk™ is committed to maintaining the security, confidentiality and privacy of your personal information. This is Block Talk™’s Privacy Policy. It documents Block Talk™’s on­going commitment to you.

In this Privacy Policy “Block Talk” and “Block Talk™” refers to 2052503 Alberta Inc. and its affiliates and subsidiaries, and “we” or “us” or “our” refer to Block Talk™ alone and never to you and us.

This Privacy Policy applies to our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information.

This Privacy Policy does not impose any limits on the collection, use or disclosure of business contact information and certain publicly-available information.

What kinds of information do we collect?

We collect different kinds of content and information from or about you when you use our services, including the content and information described below.

Things you do and information you provide.

We collect the content and other information you provide when you use our services, including when you sign up for an account, create or share, and message or communicate with other persons or entities.  This may include information in or about the content you provide, such as the location of a photo or the date a file was created.  We also collect information about how you use our services, such as the frequency and duration of your activities.

This information also includes, but is not limited to:

·      mobile phone number,

·      your in App selections including the communities that you follow and the alert categories you have selected.

·      Your username

·      Your phone’s operating system

Things others do and information they provide.

We also collect content and information that other persons and entities provide when they use our services, including information about you, such as when you “Thanks!” a report or comment on a report.

Your networks and connections.

We collect information about the communities you choose to follow and reports you choose to “Thanks!” which include communities you communicate with and the reports you like to provide or review. We also collect contact information you provide if included in a post or a report.

Device information.

We may collect information from or about the mobile phones, tablets, or other devices where you install or access our services, depending on the permissions you have granted.  We may associate the information we collect from your different devices to enable us to provide consistent services across your devices.  The following are some examples of the device information we may collect:

·      attributes such as the operating system, device settings, file and software names and types, and device identifiers;

·      connection information such as the mobile phone number.

How do we use this information?

Provide, improve and develop services.

We use the information we have collected to help us provide and support our services.  We are able to deliver our services, personalize content, and make suggestions for you by using this information to understand how you use and interact with our services and the communities or things you are reporting on or interested in on and off our services.

We analyze the information we collect to evaluate and improve products and services, and to develop new categories or features.

Communicate with you.

We use your information to send you marketing communications, communicate with you about our services and let you know about our policies, guidelines and terms of use. We also use your information to respond to you when you contact us.

Show and measure advertisements and services.

We use the information we have to improve our advertising and measurement systems so we can show you relevant advertisements and measure the effectiveness and reach of advertisements and services.

Promote safety and security.

We use the information we have to help verify accounts and activity, and to promote safety and security on and of our services, such as by investigating suspicious activity or violations of our policies, guidelines or terms of use

Other Purposes

We also collect, use and disclose your information for the following purposes:

·      to manage or transfer our assets or liabilities, for example, in the case of an acquisition or merger, the provision of security for a bank credit facility or the change of a supplier of products or services;

·      to comply with legal and regulatory requirements; and

When your personal information is to be used for a purpose not previously identified, we will disclose the new purpose to you before such use, and we will seek your consent unless the use is authorized or required by law.

How is this information shared?

Sharing our services

Persons and entities use our services to connect and share with other persons and entities.  We make this possible by sharing your information in the following ways:

People you share and communicate with.

When you share and communicate using our services, the audience is any person or entity that uses our services, including users that follow the same community in which you are reporting.

In some cases, the persons and entities you share and communicate with, may download or re-share this content with other persons and entities on and of our services.

Apps, websites and third-party integrations on or using our services.

When you use third-party apps, websites or other services that use, or are integrated with, our services, the third party may receive information about what you report.

Vendors, service providers and other partners.

We transfer information to vendors, service providers, and other partners who support our business, such as providing technical infrastructure services, analyzing how our services are used, measuring the effectiveness of advertisements and services, providing customer service, facilitating payments, or conducting academic research and surveys.  These vendors, service providers and other partners must adhere to strict confidentiality obligations in a way that is consistent with this Privacy Policy and the agreements we enter into with them.

Our vendors, service providers and other partners may be located outside of Canada, and you acknowledge that personal information may be processed and stored in foreign jurisdictions and that the governments, courts or law enforcement or regulatory agencies in those jurisdictions may be able to obtain disclosure of that personal information through the laws of the foreign jurisdiction.

Are there limits on our collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information?

We will not collect personal information indiscriminately but will limit collection of personal information to that which is reasonable and necessary.  We will also collect personal information as required or authorized by law.

Your personal information will only be used or disclosed for the purposes set out above and as required or authorized by law.

We will destroy, erase or make anonymous documents or other records containing personal information as soon as it is reasonable to assume that the original purpose is no longer being served by retention of the information and retention is no longer necessary for a legal or business purpose.

How do we respond to legal requests or prevent harm?

We may access, preserve and share your information in response to a legal request (like a search warrant, court order or subpoena) if we have a good faith belief that the law requires us to do so. This may include responding to legal requests from jurisdictions outside of Canada and the United States of America where we have a good faith belief that the response is required by law in that foreign jurisdiction, affects users in that foreign jurisdiction, and is consistent with internationally recognized standards.  We may also access, preserve and share information when we have a good faith belief it is necessary including, without limitation, for the following purposes: to detect, prevent and address fraud and any other illegal activity; to protect ourselves, you and other persons and entities, including as part of an investigation; or to prevent death or imminent bodily harm; for example, we may provide information to our vendors, service providers and other partner  about the reliability of your account to prevent fraud and abuse on and off of our services.  We also may retain information from accounts disabled for violations of our policies, guidelines or terms of use for at least a year to prevent repeat abuse or other violations of our policies, guidelines and terms of use.

How do we keep your information secure?

We protect the personal information in our custody or control by making commercially reasonable security arrangements to prevent unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or similar risks. We will take commercially reasonable steps, through contractual or other means, to ensure that a comparable level of personal information protection is implemented by the suppliers and agents who assist in providing services to us.

We note that confidentiality and security are not assured when information is transmitted through e-mail or other wireless communication.

How can you confirm your information’s accuracy?

We will make a commercially reasonable effort to ensure that personal information we are using or disclosing is accurate and complete.

If you demonstrate the inaccuracy or incompleteness of your personal information, we will amend the information as required; if appropriate, we will send the amended information to persons and entities to whom the information has been disclosed.

When a challenge regarding the accuracy of personal information is not resolved to your satisfaction, we will annotate the personal information under our control with a note that the correction was requested by you but not made by us.

How can you access your information?

You have a right to access your personal information held by us.

Upon written request and authentication of identity, we will provide you with your personal information under our control.  We will also give you information about the ways in which that information is being used and a description of the persons and entities to whom that information has been disclosed.  We may charge you a reasonable fee for providing this information to you.

In some situations, we may not be able to provide you access to certain personal information; for example, if disclosure of your personal information would reveal personal information about another individual, if the personal information you are seeking is protected by solicitor/client privilege, if the personal information you are seeking was collected for the purposes of an investigation, if we are prevented by law from providing you access to your personal information or where disclosure to you of your personal information would reveal confidential commercial information that could harm our competitive position.

Where an access request for your personal information is refused, we will notify you in writing, document the reasons for the refusal and outline further steps which are available to you to access your personal information.

How will we notify you of changes to this policy?                                

We will notify you before we make any revisions, amendments or supplements to this Privacy Policy and give you the opportunity to review and comment on the revised, amended or supplemented Privacy Policy.
